Hi Sarah,

Thanks for your comment. I am always surprised when I get a comment from someone I don't know. It's kind of funny to think that people I don't know would be reading my thoughts, but then, I read blogs of several people that I don't actually know...

I have been a pediatric hem/onc nurse since I graduated from nursing school, which was a few months short of 3 years ago. I do love my job very much. It definitely has its ups and downs (right now is a down time), but it is a joy to be able to work with those kids and their families. The kids are AMAZING - so resilient and often so full of life despite their circumstances. I especially love the babies and toddlers, who sometimes don't even seem to know the difference. I love that I get to see the same kids and families over and over again and have the opportunity to build a relationship with them. Of course, that makes it hard when things don't work out the way that I want them to, but I wouldn't trade it. I have a very strong faith in God, and I love the opportunities I get to pray for my patients and encourage them with hope that is far more than I myself have to offer them. So, yes, I love my job.

On the technical side, there is always so much to learn. I appreciate having a specialized body of information that I can learn and apply to patient care. (Of course, that leaves me I little lost when we get off-service kids on the floor. I am always like, oh my gosh...this kid has a broken femur...what the heck do i do with that...that info on traction from nursing school passed from my brain a long time ago...)

Good luck with the last couple of months of school! Hope that you find a job that you love as much as i love mine!
